Federation style with natural touches in Kambah

Amanda had been planning her updated master bathroom for years and she knew exactly what she wanted – so when it came time to finally renovate, she came to me with more than an idea…she had a perfect plan! She knew she wanted a classic and subtle bathroom with a rustic touch, drawing together the modern comforts of the indoors with the natural bushland she could see from her window.

Classic and understated

This bathroom is all about the details – it’s not splashy or showy. Instead, it’s the simple, small touches that make it feel right. Subtle penny round tiles fill the shower niches and nod to the classic federation style. A magnificent freestanding tub with a floor-mounted faucet stands before wood-panelled walls, creating the perfect space for relaxation and indulgence. The double vanity matches the wall panelling, includes plenty of storage and is topped with glossy marble – completed with the classically styled faucet and taps. Long and slim wood-look tiles on the floor meet Amanda’s request that we match the indoors and outdoors.

Other small touches, like the period-appropriate heating grate, matching shaving cabinets beside the window and the subtle strip drain all ensure this bathroom is elevated beyond a regular renovation.

Bringing nature inside

Amanda is lucky enough to live near some of Canberra’s beautiful bushland, and her master bathroom looks over a park. She wanted to play up the feeling of light, openness and space that she felt when she looked outside. To achieve this, we positioned a large, screenless shower opposite the window so when she takes her morning shower she can enjoy Australia’s beautiful greens, greys and blue skies. We included high and low niches in the shower for both storage and practicality.

The thoughtful details that make a big difference

At Mark Sheppard Bathrooms and Renovations we pride ourselves on ensuring even the smallest details are taken care of – for example, we levelled out Amanda’s floor so there’s no step up and over into the shower, and we matched the floor height and tiles to create a natural transition between bedroom walk-through wardrobe and the bathroom. We also reset, replastered and repainted the ceiling.

Living in the new bathroom

Amanda is thrilled to have her new master bathroom, and has already booked us in to do her main bathroom, laundry and toilet to match. ‘It’s so beautiful – Mark completely made my vision come to life. I just love the classic feeling of the room, especially coupled with the beautiful view. I can’t wait for the next renovation so my other rooms are up to the same standard!’

We loved taking this classic, stylish bathroom from plan to reality, and we’d love to do the same for you! If you’ve been planning your own special renovation, make sure to get in touch for your free consultation and quote!
